Cacao is one of the most nutrient-rich foods on the planet. The Mayans and the Aztecs have used Cacao in their daily rituals and have coined Cacao the “Food of the Gods”.
Cacao is rich with antioxidants, having more of it than any other whole food including blueberries, green tea, and red wine. These antioxidants help promote cardiovascular health by lowering cholesterol, improving blood circulation, and repairing blood vessels. Cacao is also the highest source of Magnesium in the world. Magnesium, which can’t be produced by the human body, helps regulate metabolism, increases brainpower, energizes muscles and builds strong bones.
Cacao is extremely high in Iron, having 314% of the recommended daily value. Cacao is also high in compounds that increase the neurotransmitters in our brain and stimulate endorphins, promoting a feel-good feeling similar to a “runner’s high”. These compounds include serotonin and phenylethylamine, which act as antidepressants, reducing PMS symptoms and promoting a relaxed, happy state. Cacao is also known for increasing focus and alertness. For athletes, cacao is great as a muscle and stress relaxant after enduring bouts of high volume training.
Coconut sugar, on the other hand, is a nutrient-rich, low calorie, low glycemic natural sweetener made from freshly harvested coconut sap. Coconut sugar-coated cacao nibs is an excellent combination, as you get the benefits of both superfoods in one.
Munch on this pure nutrient-rich chocolate nibs on its own, sprinkle as a topping on your healthy snack / raw ice cream / chia pudding, or mix in with your smoothies or desserts to give it a chocolate superfood kick.
